Fourth Pedigree

The following pedigree presents you with the inheritance pattern of a trait within a family. Use the interrelationships between the affected family members to determine what type of inheritance is followed by this trait.

Please determine the genotypes of family members, and choose the option which best describes the inheritance pattern of the highlighted trait (magenta color) in the above family pedigree.

  1. Autosomal Dominant Inheritance
  2. Autosomal Recessive Inheritance
  3. Mitochondrial Inheritance
  4. X-linked Inheritance
  5. Y-linked Inheritance - Please note that Y chromosome linked inheritance is paternal: only males are affected and all males are affected in a lineage. There is a father in this family whose son does not express the trait. Sons receive their Y chromosome from their father; thus, this trait cannot be Y-linked. Also, note that there are females in this family, who express the trait. Females have no Y chromosome, thus the trait cannot be Y-linked. Please RETURN to the Fourth Pedigree assessment.
