Fourth Pedigree

The following pedigree presents you with the inheritance pattern of a trait within a family. Use the interrelationships between the affected family members to determine what type of inheritance is followed by this trait.

Please determine the genotypes of family members, and choose the option which best describes the inheritance pattern of the highlighted trait (magenta color) in the above family pedigree.

  1. Autosomal Dominant Inheritance
  2. Autosomal Recessive Inheritance
  3. Mitochondrial Inheritance
  4. X-linked Inheritance - Please note that an unaffected mother has an affected son in this family (blue arrows). This allows a recessive X-linked trait but excludes a dominant inheritance pattern. If the trait was recessive, then all children from an affected mother and an affected father (grey arrows) would be affected as well. Please note that an affected mother and an affected father do not have affected children in this family. Please RETURN to the Fourth Pedigree assessment.
  5. Y-linked Inheritance
