Fourth Pedigree

The following pedigree presents you with the inheritance pattern of a trait within a family. Use the interrelationships between the affected family members to determine what type of inheritance is followed by this trait.

Please determine the genotypes of family members, and choose the option which best describes the inheritance pattern of the highlighted trait (magenta color) in the above family pedigree.

  1. Autosomal Dominant Inheritance
  2. Autosomal Recessive Inheritance
  3. Mitochondrial Inheritance - Please note that an affected mother does not have affected children in this family (grey arrow). If the trait followed mitochondrial inheritance pattern, then all of her children would express the trait. Also, there are mothers who are unaffected, while their children are affected. Mitochondrial inheritance is maternal: all affected children must have affected mothers. Please RETURN to the Fourth Pedigree assessment.
  4. X-linked Inheritance
  5. Y-linked Inheritance
